Golf Practice Without a Net: 7 Creative Training Methods

Golf Practice Without a Net: 7 Creative Training Methods

You don't need a net to make meaningful progress in your golf game. These 7 training methods work with just a hitting mat and a few simple tools.

1. Impact Bag Training

An impact bag (or a stack of old towels) lets you practice the all-important impact position. Hit into the bag on your mat and hold the impact position.

2. Alignment Practice

Use alignment sticks on the mat. Set up to an imaginary target and check your feet, hips, and shoulders alignment. Do 20 setups without swinging.

3. Swing Path Drills

Place a club or alignment stick on the mat along your target line. Practice swinging so your clubhead travels along the path. No ball needed.

4. Tempo Training

Use a metronome app or tempo trainer. Set it to a 3:1 beat. Practice your swing rhythm on the mat without a ball.

5. Balance Drills

Practice swinging on one leg. Swing to the top and hold, then swing through to finish and hold. Builds core stability and balance.

6. Mirror Work

Set up a full-length mirror next to your mat. Check your setup, takeaway, and finish positions. Visual feedback is powerful.

7. Putting Practice

Use the hitting mat for putting practice. Place two tees as a gate and practice putting through them. Work on distance control with different stroke lengths.

Not having a net is not an excuse. These 7 methods will keep you improving between range sessions.
